Manikkam “Bala” Balasingham
Bala was raised in Malaysia as a Hindu. His mother became a Christian late in life and prayed earnestly for her son to receive Jesus as his Savior. Bala began seeking the One True God in college and, after much study and research, gave his life to Christ. He received both a Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago and taught at the Malaysian Bible Seminary and at Singapore Bible College. He and his wife, Carol, married in 1969 and are Regional Directors for Muslim Ministry in Southeast Asia through EFCA’s missions arm, ReachGlobal. Bala and Carol began attending here in 2007 and have been involved in ABFs and Community Groups for several years. They have two grown sons and four grandchildren.
Taylor Clark has been a member of Austin Oaks Church since 1995. A native of Dallas, Taylor is a graduate of Texas Tech University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance in 1981. He began his career in the energy sector and moved to Austin in 1987. Today, Taylor owns and operates a company that is primarily involved in the renewable energy business. Since he began attending Austin Oaks Church, Taylor has served in various roles as a volunteer and leader. He has previously served two terms on the Elder Board. He has been a small group leader, an usher and a member of the Building Commission. He also was instrumental as a Youth Ministry volunteer in conducting the search of our current Youth Pastor. Taylor and his wife, Gayle have been married 19 years and enjoy their children, Ryan, Cole, and Bailey.
John Jackson was born and raised in Memphis, TN, and has been married to his high school sweetheart, Elaine, for 43 years. They have three children who were raised in the ministries of AOC, and currently have five grandchildren. John holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Arkansas. He began his journey with Christ and his professional career in Arkansas. While there, he served as an elder for a church plant of Fellowship Bible Church of Little Rock. He and Elaine eventually moved to Austin where he received his Post Professional Master of Architecture, and became a visiting professor at Texas A&M. John and Elaine first attended AOC in the fall of 1990 and became members in 1991. His involvement at AOC includes many leadership roles. He helped start the Parents of Teens and Axiom Adult Bible Fellowship classes, served as a leader in Men’s Ministry and as a member of the Aesthetics Committee. He currently serves on the Building Commission. In 2008 John and Elaine answered God’s call to direct the ministries of Camp Redcloud, and then returned to Austin in 2014. John is a principal architect with Jackson Galloway Architects. His expertise was instrumental in the design of the buildings and courts of AOC. He also co-founded the VAM Gallery.
Hollis Jefferies has been a member of Austin Oaks Church since 1976. He first began attending the church in 1969 when he was a student at The University of Texas at Austin and the church was known as First Evangelical Free Church of Austin. During that time, he met Carla Lind, a lifelong member of the church. They were married in 1974. Their family consists of two married adult children and five grandchildren. Hollis is a native Texan, born and raised in a Christian home in Corpus Christi. As a child, he attended Wesley United Methodist Church, and today he still values the traditional form of worship. He graduated from UT in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and has spent 43 years as a Financial Advisor with A G Edwards, which eventually merged with Wells Fargo Advisors. Hollis has previously served two terms on the Elder Board. He is serving currently as a member of the church's Finance and Building Commissions. In 2002 Hollis and Carla started the Harvest Class, an ABF for Young Marrieds.
Craig has been a member of Austin Oaks Church since 2003. He first began visiting the church in 1991 when he was a student at The University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from UT, and spent 15 years practicing architecture before becoming a partner in a construction consulting firm about 10 years ago. He and his wife Linda were married in 1993. They lived in Denver and then in Dallas before coming back to Austin in 2001. They have four children: Emily (7), Caroline (13), Will (17), and Rachel (18) who is a student at Baylor University. Craig is serving currently as a member of the Building Commission and he chairs the Aesthetics Committee. He and Linda are currently involved in the Raising Teens Adult Bible Fellowship.
Richard was raised in a Christian home in Austin and accepted the gospel at age 10. He attended St. Edward’s University where he graduated with degrees in Political Science and English Writing. Richard is the founder and president of a local technology development firm. He began attending here when it was located on Red River Street and became a member in 2002. Since coming to Austin Oaks, Richard has been involved in Men’s Ministry, New Life in Christ prison ministry and the Usher team. He and his wife, Toi, also volunteer their time leading Bible studies through Bible Study Fellowship International.
Andy grew up in Farmington, Michigan. He accepted Christ in 1977 and joined a campus discipleship ministry which led to a lifelong love of small groups. After graduating with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, he enjoyed a wild 26 year ride in the high-tech industry. Andy now leads their family-owned real estate brokerage. Andy and his wife, Julia, met and married in Phoenix, Arizona in 1984 and have three grown sons Eric, Ian & Tyler. After moving to Austin in 2005, they found their way to our church in 2007 where they have served as leaders & servants in the Raising Teens & Harvest ABFs, Small Group Ministry, and Children's Ministry.
Scott was raised in a Christian home with his parents and two brothers in Washington, PA where his father was a minister. Scott doesn’t remember a time when he didn’t know that Christ was his Savior. He graduated from South Dakota State University in 1985 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1999, Scott and his family moved to Austin where he took a position with Jacobs Engineering Group. Scott and his wife, Marian, were married in 1993 and have three children. They joined our church in 2002, and Scott has served as an Usher and Community Group Leader since coming to the church.
